These melt-in-your-mouth sugar cookies have only THREE ingredients: Sugar, butter, and flour. No eggs needed!
3 ingredient sugar cookies
Oh my, these 3 ingredient sugar cookies are soft, buttery, fluffy, and delicious. I can't believe how quick and easy they are to make, and with ingredients most have on hand in their fridge and pantry.
The sprinkles are optional, but too cute not to add, which brings the ingredients list up to four.
So the next time you're craving cookies, you're only one bowl and half an hour away.

ingredients
I'm still in awe that the ingredients below combine to make the BEST cookies. And no eggs! So if you're looking for eggless cookies, these should go in the recipe box.
BUTTER - Butter is what gives these cookies their melt-in-your-mouth texture and flavor. I recommend butter over shortening or margarine. I also suggest SALTED butter.
SUGAR - You'll need white granulated sugar.
FLOUR - All-purpose flour works great in these cookies.
SPRINKLES -- Sprinkles make these cookies colorful and even more flavorful. Try non-pareils or jimmies style sprinkles.
equipment
You'll need a baking tray.
Line your tray with parchment paper for best results.
A one-tablespoon cookie scoop helps portion your dough perfectly.
Transfer cookies to a baking rack to fully cool.
While our recipes provide both the metric and non-metric amounts, for best results, we recommend a digital scale.
I use an oven thermometer for accuracy. (This is how I know my oven runs 25 degrees cold.)
variations and tips
You can add ½ teaspoon of pure vanilla extract for additional flavor.
If you use unsalted butter, I recommend adding ¼ teaspoon of salt to the dough. However, it is optional if you prefer less salt.
If you do not own a digital scale to measure your ingredients, it's important to measure your flour properly or the cookies will be too crumbly.
To measure flour, spoon the flour into the measuring cup and flatten the top with a knife. Dipping your flour into the flour canister will result in too much flour being added.
After cooling, instead of sprinkles, top with your favorite frosting.
For an egg-free school bake sale, wrap a few cookies in a cellophane bag and tie with rainbow ribbon.
how to make 3 ingredient sugar cookies
Start with creaming together slightly-softened butter (butter that will indent if pressed, but still has resistance) and sugar in a standing mixer or in a large bowl with a hand mixer.
Make sure the butter and sugar are fully combined and fluffy.
Gradually mix in the flour. The mixture will be crumbly at first, but mix until a dough forms.
Portion out 15 cookies with a 1-tablespoon cookie scoop and place on a parchment paper-lined baking tray. Roll each portion into a ball and flatten a bit with your palm.
Top with sprinkles, if using.
Bake in a preheated 325 degree F oven until edges are golden, 15 to 17 minutes.
Transfer to a cooling rack after ten minutes to fully cool.

FANTASTIC! Like a shortbread cookie without the long bake & scoring required. A bit lighter, too. Made this with 3 year old twins this Christmas. The sprinkles done before backing made them perfect for little ones that can’t wait for the outcome!!! And don’t really have the skill to paint icing. I’m sure you could double the recipe, but I liked that dough fit on one cookie sheet. I also added vanilla extract. Will make again!!
